Boyd's Tuna Fly
Created and tied by Boyd Pfeiffer

Materials:

Hook: 3X long saltwater hook such as Mustad 3407 1/0.

Thread: white monocord or clear mono

Tail and wing: White craft fur and olive crystal flash

Body: Braided Mylar with strings left in place

Color and patterns: permanent marker black

Eyes: Prismatic Red or pearl

Weight: lead wire (optional)

Boyd starts this pattern by ironing flat a strip of braided Mylar. The threads are kept and aligned to the middle of the tube. He then slips the  thread through the tube  and starts tying. See below. After a tail is built by tying on material in small clumps, tie in crystal  flash on sides at lateral line. Now the tube slips over the fly to the  hook  bend. The tube can now easily be tied off behind the hook eye.  Mark back in fishy patterns, mark tail to match. Add eyes using small amount  of Goop  Marine adhesive. Epoxy coat head twice and dry on a wheel or use soft coat and press out excess into a paper towel. Change color to imitate other  baitfish.

Fish on a sinking line using long steady strips that may jerk and dive like a wounded bait.
