Carpenteria Report 1/15
Well with the good fishing I had yesterday I thought it would be a good idea to fish it again today.
I met up with Tim P. this morning around 6:30 am and got right to it.
Got my first palm perch of the morning on my second cast.
As I made my fourth or fifth cast I get bit pretty good by what I thought was a monster perch.
As I'm bringing this thing in I'm thinking this fish is pulling too hard to be a perch.
When I finally beach the fish I was happy to see that it was a nice fair hooked corbina on a size 6 olive/white polar fiber clouser.
After that it was slow action for some dink and palm size BSP.
Tim got a big 14" BSP and a really big Leopard shark. I'm pretty sure Tim will fill in all the details.
I got a total of about 7 BSP and one corbina. All of the fish came on the rootbeer surfrat except for two small BSP and the corbina.
All in all it was a great morning fishing with Tim.

today S. Lee can say,
"i catch more corbina by 7 am than most people do all day."
(it was about 6:40... yikes!)
i was still tying my fly on when i saw him landing a
perch; i was fish-less and bump-less when he
hooked up with the corbina. ( i thought to myself,
"looks like i'm in for an arse--whuppin" )
here's a picture of S. Lee and his fish... (in keeping
with the tradition started by HipToThat, i've
lopped his head off)
tight lines everybody,
tim

the rest of the story
oh, yeah... my fish.
i waded around a certain well-known point waayyy
too early in the falling tide, and S. had the brains
not to follow me.
on arriving on the other side, i picked up a few perch,
and then hooked into something that ran me 200 feet
into my backing. i was using Airflo's PolyShoot for
running line (bright orange), which is 150 feet long,
and.... i couldn't even see it, it was so far out
to sea. i was beginning to think i was going to
experience my first "spooling".
a twenty minute fight finally brought to hand a nice
leopard shark, which (from the photo) i am estimating
was about 40 inches long. It was dorsal-fin-hooked,
so it had been "tail towards me" the entire time.
Put a nice bend in the old 7-weight. (6 lb tippet).
Days count was something like 7 BSP and 1 leopard;
the leopard was definitely the highlight; it is
shown below.
(all fish released to fight another day.)

Tim,
Nice Leopard!!! That sure sounds like a blast. I am still wanting to catch one of them myself. The picture makes your rod look so tiny! hehe
Nice Corb S. Lee!
