Thread: White Danville flat waxed
nylon
Hook: #2 Tiemco 811s, Daiichi 2546

Eyes: Black, 7/32” machined brass
hourglass tied opposite the hook point (This placement reduces sand
blasting of the tippet to fly knot.)
Eye cover: Clear craft lace (Rexlace)
Belly: White
Fishhair or Unique Hair – teased out to a taper 4 to 5 inches long

Thin pinch of chartreuse Angel Hair – Use a length
that is twice the length of the rest of the wing. Tie it in at the middle
and wind the thread forward to the eye of the hook. Pull the Angel Hair
forward and tie off short of the hook eye. Tie in some medium size, clear
vinyl rib (flat side down), fold back to the eyes and wind the thread
back. Fold the Angel Hair back on itself and tie down at the same place
the vinyl rib was anchored. Wind the thread forward using open spirals of
the thread back to the eye of the hook. Wind the vinyl rib forward and
tie off. The colors of the top layers of the wing should show through. |
Head: White Danville flat waxed nylon – Unwind
the twist of the thread so it is flattened and wind on a tapered head.
Use 30-minute epoxy to secure all thread wraps and cover the vinyl rib. The
body should be tapered from the eyes to the hook eye.
Collar:
Pale blue Super Hair – Retie the thread behind the brass eyes and wrapped
over the wing material to the bend in the hook and just behind the hook
bend. Tie in a 3” bunch of the Super Hair on top of and on the near side of
the fly behind the brass eyes. Pull the Super Hair down in front of the
brass eyes and under the fly, in front of the brass eyes on the other side
of the fly and tie it in on top of and on the far side of the hook. Trim
the collar to about and inch in length. The purpose of this collar is to
help prevent the wing from fouling around the hook bend.
