SMILEY’S CLOUSER by Brian Hastings

Materials:

Hook: Mustad 34007, Tiemco 811s, or Trey Combs sizes #4 - #2/0

Thread: Uni Thread 3/0 or flat waxed, white and red

Eyes: Dumbbell eyes: sm., med., or lg. depending on hook size

Body: Super Hair: olive, shrimp brown or smoke, & white or polar bear

Flash: Flashabou: Mirage (opal) or Holographic (silver)

Tying steps:

1.      Tie on dumbbell eyes 1/3 of the hook shank from the eye with white thread and super glue. Tie thread off.

2.      Flip the hook over and tie in red thread between the dumbbell eyes and the hook eye. Now cut 25-40 full length strands of white or polar bear Super Hair. Fold in half on thread and tie down. Tie off the red thread.

3.      Tie in white thread between red thread and hook eye. Cut 10-20 full length strands of Flashabou. Fold in half on thread and tie down between previously tied down Super Hair and hook eye.

4.      Cut 10-20 full length strands of shrimp brown or smoke Super Hair. Fold in half on thread and tie down the same as last step.

5.      Cut 15-30 full length strands of olive Super Hair. Fold and tie as last steps close to hook eye.

6.      Tie off thread. Use gloss head cement on thread. Cut tail of fly in a V taper toward rear.

Notes:

This clouser fly is effective on all species and simple to tie. It can be tied with a flash tail by letting the Flashabou extend back farther than the Super Hair by 1 inch.
